Progressive Scale was founded in 1976 as a scale company, at the moment scales were going from mechanical to electronic. We have been at the join between weighing hardware and software ever since.
In 1976, a scale was a mechanical instrument that showed a number to a person. Within a few years it was an electronic device with a serial port — which meant, for the first time, that the number could go somewhere.
That is the business we have been in ever since: not selling scales, but working out what the weight should do next. Trigger a filler. Resolve a count. Print a label. Land in a database someone can report on. Along the way we became a scale company that writes software, which is an unusual combination, and the reason customers call us when the integration is the hard part.
Today we build scale data collection and control systems used by end users and by scale dealers worldwide, and we still calibrate scales across Connecticut every week. In 2027 the company turns fifty.
